Fusei Kise was born on May 4, 1935. He is recognized as a formidable figure in Okinawan Karate, particularly within the Matsumura Seito Shorin-Ryu lineage.
Training and Lineage
1947: Began studying Karate under his uncle, Master Makabe.
1955: Became a student of Master Shingake Nobutake and received his Shodan.
1958: Started training under Grandmaster Soken Hohan, the third successor of Matsumura Seito Shorin-Ryu.
1960: Studied under Grandmaster Nakamura Shigeru (Okinawan Kenpo Karate-Do Federation) and qualified for 7th Dan.
1965: Awarded the title of Shihan.
1972: Qualified for the Hanshi title and 8th Dan under Grandmaster Soken and Master Makabe.
1976: Promoted to 9th Dan by Grandmaster Hohan Soken.
1977: Founded the Shorin Ryu Karate Kenshin Kan Karate and Kobudo Federation.
1987: Promoted to 10th Dan by Master Shigaru Tamaiya.
Official Recognition
In 2001, the Government of Japan provided their Seal of Approval to the accuracy of Master Kise's book. Official government archives state that Grand Master Kise is the sole true heir to Matsumora Orthodox Karate, passed down to him directly from Hohan Sensei.
In April 2001, the Japanese Parliament selected Grand Master Kise to receive a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, a ceremony attended by senators and other Okinawan Karate dignitaries.
