WELCOME to the International Shuriway Karate & Kobudo Society (国際首里道唐手と古武道会).

Originally established in 1999 for the purpose of providing a reference resource for the noble discipline of karate and kobudo, for current practitioners, newcomers and those interested in finding further information. Contained within the pages of this website we have biographies of masters past and present, articles, history and much more.

Karate (空手), meaning "empty hand", with its origins on the small island of Okinawa, with influences from China. The original characters for Karate (唐手) translated as "China Hand" and was pronouced "To-Te" or "Tu-Di". One of the aims of the ISKKS is to promote and preserve traditional karate and the martial arts of Okinawa and Japan. The information contained within this website includes details on many different styles and disciplines. The information has been gratefully provided by many sources. Our aim is to help preserve and promote traditional Budo, with the cultural heritage of the classical karate and kobudo of Okinawa and Japan. We do not offer insurance, licence books, or get involved in your classes or politics. Our purpose is to unite traditional and classical martial artists and help to build new friendships.
